NONSTOP – Smart Security Passage and Digital Media System

THE PROBLEM

At security checkpoints at shopping mall entrances, visitors typically place their phones, keys and other metal items on fixed stands next to the security gate before passing through the detector. Although this process seems simple, it creates a significant flow problem, particularly during busy hours. The visitor stopping, placing their belongings down, passing through the security check, and then turning to retrieve their belongings again can cause congestion at the entrance area and reduce the passage speed. Rather than managing this process, the existing fixed stands merely provide a surface on which belongings can be placed. The aim of the NONSTOP project is to reorganize this physical flow without changing the security procedure or the existing detector systems; to reduce the bottleneck at security entrances by enabling a more orderly progression of visitor and belongings movement. The second problem addressed by the project is that the high visitor traffic at shopping mall entrances is not being adequately utilized. By combining the physical system that solves the passage problem with a digital media infrastructure, NONSTOP aims to transform these areas into a measurable and centrally manageable advertising point as well.
