THE PROBLEM
While access to clean drinking water is becoming an increasingly critical problem worldwide, the majority of existing seawater treatment systems require fixed installation, electrical infrastructure, high investment cost, or integration into boat systems. However, for a person, disaster response team, soldier, camper, or a small community located on a sea or ocean coast, even though millions of liters of water surround them, this water is not directly drinkable. In particular, the disabling of electricity and water networks during disasters, the lack of infrastructure in remote coastal regions, and the increasing pressure of climate change on freshwater resources make small-scale and independent drinking water production strategic. The main problem the project aims to solve is as follows: "How can personal drinking water be produced at a location where seawater is present, without the need for a large facility or fixed infrastructure?" The developed concept aims to answer this need with a product platform that is portable, modular, and capable of operating with different energy sources.
